Modern weddings are a true delight.  Typically filled with clean crisp lines, minimalist design & gorgeous locations.  Katie Burgess & Chris Jones opted to celebrate their wedding in a modern style at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a modern architectural gem.  The ceremony took place in a circular setup on the lawn, while cocktail hour was on the fourth floor observation deck overlooking the Denver skyline!  Our bride & groom kept their style classic with a gorgeous full tulle wedding dress & the groom in a sleek gray suit.  Future couples after a modern wedding, take note!

What Storyboard Likes…

The Space- I am in an absolute modern tizzy over Denver Museum of Nature and Science!  The nouveau architecture, filled with sleek chrome lines & the use of glass, glass and more glass is a visual stunner.  While the grounds around it are lovely I’m sure, its clear that the show piece here is the building.  The grand room where our couple had their reception as the sun went down is divine!  The natural light that floods that room when the sun is up is indeed heavenly, but I think its the second to last shot that I really love.  Once the sun has gone down, the light from within the building really illuminates the design in a whole new way, revealing new lines & geometric design!

The Florals- Believe it or not, yellow can be a tricky color.  It is a super strong color, one that easily dominates attention.  Without the right eye, it can easily over take things.  I love the way that Cori Cook Floral Design styled the event from the choice of blooms to the perfect amount of reserve when needed.  My favorite, by far, is the bleached branch orchid floral box with billy ball accents on a bed of Spanish moss.  The piece as a whole is eye catching in its beauty and I really love that they went for height here.  As the building has such high vaulted ceilings, letting a few design pieces reach for the sky is a great choice!

The Circles- Bare with, I promise I will make it worth your while!  Whether the couple realizes it or not, this wedding has a couple circular focal points!  To me, circles, when it comes to love & weddings, have an infinity, forever embracing hug to them, rather fitting I’d say!  So where are the circles right?  Firstly the circular set up for the ceremony where family & friends essentially are seated to embrace the couple as they marry.  The use of billy balls in the florals (the ones with the thin stem & yellow ball), the floral balls decorating the ceremony, the choice of round tables at the reception might seem obvious but they count too, AND looking back at that second to last image, the reception space itself, has a giant circle floating above it.  Its almost as if it is a giant sun warming the affair, or a big happy smile looking down on them!

Getting married under live oaks draped with Spanish moss seems so very storybook, movie style southern wedding to me!  When I saw Courtney Hamm & Whitney Newman’s wedding, which took place among the ruins at Runnymede Plantation, I knew I had to share this gorgeous South Carolina wedding with you!  The wedding was punctuated with pewter glasses, vases, and pink and white floral arrangements at the reception while our couple was married under a drift wood arch along the marsh line.  Family & friends danced then danced the night away under a tented sky, ultimately cheering the couple off with a sparkler departure!

A whole lotta pretty just fell into my inbox with this one guys!  This wedding is a rustic yet majorly chic affair right after my own heart!  Shannon Mann & Jonathan Mann take us on a wedding day journey featuring a stop with Jonathan at the barber shop & steal a moment with the couple as they do a separated by a door ‘First Look’ prayer.  Our couple wanted a gorgeously styled day of celebration with touches of vintage flare and inspiration.  Chicken coupe wire was used to display the escort cards, while time weathered kitchen items added in the dessert table display.  At every turn wonderful old soda crates were used for guest items like paper parasols which guest were able to provide themselves with shade while seated on gorgeous outdoor furniture.  There are so many fine touches that comprise the overall design aesthetic we know this will be an instant favorite!

What Storyboard Likes…

The Ride- Why bother with a traditional limo when a stunning pearly white classic ride is at your finger tips!  Vintage/Classic cars are an instant way to really put a finger print on your overall aesthetic & feel for the day.  Whether your theme is modern or maybe something more vintage inspired, these graceful giants are one stellar way to make an entrance!

The Escort Cards- Love, love, LOVE these!!  Such a simple yet brilliant idea.  Using repurposed frames, frame up some chicken coupe wire, use die cut doily shaped name cards & finish by pinning with mini clothes pins. Its a simple touch but one that gives just the perfect amount of rustic elegance, what keeps it modern & upscale however are the choices of font & print job.  We are big big fans of this one!

The Cupcake Scale- Scrumptious cupcakes on a majorly old, time weathered scale as part of the dessert tablescape, GENIUS!  I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more creative, simple & fun way to display your cupcakes, we welcome any future challengers though!

Bridal Style- We’re big fans of Shannon’s bridal style & its not very hard to understand why, just look at her!  Her form fitting lace dress with open back is simply divine and we love that she opted for an elbow length veil to give a slight sheer playful element to that open back!  Pulling her hair up in a textured gibson, Shannon’s stunning natural features were only enhanced by the up do as well as the smoky eye & light lips.  The overall effect is one of classic beauty that many future brides to be would be well served to style after.  Remember ladies, pick a feature to highlight & let the rest play supporting cast!  Well done Shannon, we love it!

Sometimes that job you took in high school just might lead you to the love of your life,  which is exactly what happened in Elisabeth Frakes & Chris Landry’s case.  While working at Abercrombie, our couple formed a bond which then lead to marriage!  Chris’s proposal happened high in the skies, spelling out “Will you marry me” on the ground, then taking Elisabeth up in a plane to see!  With such a stellar proposal, only a luxury Dallas wedding would do!  Marrying at the Covenant Church, Elisabeth & Chris were then swept off in a gorgeous Rolls, heading to their fuchsia light reception featuring tall floral centerpieces, floating candle illuminares & a stunning textured tiered cake with a to die for real rose mid layer!  Rounding out their evening, was a photo booth complete with awesome props & a sparkler sendoff!
