Chocolate Brown, Champagne Tones & Fuchsia Pops In This Crystal Dripping Outdoor Wedding

 454     04.15.2013 8:50 am

A Note from Andy Sams Photography: ”Kim and Ragan actually met at a wedding in 2008, so being a part of their own wedding was really exciting. This fun couple descibes their first encounter as a tipsy rendezvous that began at Lavaca Street Bar and and has lasted ever since. Kim and Ragan are living proof that weddings are a great place to meet somebody, so don’t be shy and ask the cutie at the wet bar to dance. The ceremony took place at The Phoenix of Weimar, TX in the Colorado River Valley among the Texas Hill Country. The gorgeous landscape lent itself to some really unique decorations hung throughout the venue, including strands of crystals and a floral chandelier. Their vibrant color scheme really stood out against the woodland backdrop, making for stunning photographs. Kim is kind and really easy-going, which fit her lifestyle perfectly as a kindergarten teacher in the Austin area. As she narrates in her version of the couple’s meeting story, Kim very much enjoys going to happy hour with her fellow teachers after long days nurturing children in the classroom. It was only a matter of time before these two ran into each other. Though Kim graduated from the University of Texas Austin in 2002, Ragan received multiple Bachelor’s degrees, including Mathematics and Computer Science, from UT Tyler only a couple of years prior. He now works as a business analyst at a leading business solutions agency in Austin, TX. The fireworks didn’t end at the alter at this wedding. The reception was held under the giant Texas sky as fireworks shot off overhead.”

Novella of the Bride…

Kim Taylor Morris is a Kindergarten teacher at Round Rock I.S.D. in Austin, Texas.  Ragan Kyle Morris is a software developer for Santanna Energy Services.  We met in November of 2008 at Ragan’s cousin’s wedding.  Kim taught Kindergarten with Ragan’s cousin.  We began talking at the wedding and have been together ever since.  Kim is a graduate of UT Austin and Ragan graduated from UT Tyler.  We both love the Texas Longhorns and attend football games.  Ragan makes Kim laugh often.  We both enjoy yard work, home improvements, relaxing with an adult beverage from time to time, cooking together, going for walks/jogs and watching tv.  Our latest passion is our new baby daughter, Taylor Layne Morris.  :-)

Our wedding theme was country chic/rustic.  The colors were chocolate brown, champagne and fuschia.  The flowers were bright bouquets of pinks and other spring colors.  We had mason jars for guests to drink from, burlap covered picnic tables, as well as satin covered chocolate brown & fuschia tables with beautiful arrangements around candelabras and lanterns.  We had a chandelier strung with roses hanging above our ceremony site in a grove of trees.  Many strings of crystals were also hanging around our ceremony site catching the sunlight.  A string trio played classical music.  Floral arrangements hung in mason jars from shepherd’s picks along the aisle.  DJ Superman (Art Hernandez) from Flatonia, Texas kept soft music/country music playing throughout cocktail hour and dinner and then kicked it up a notch for the dance after dinner.  We had fireworks near the end of the evening.

My husband and I wanted an outdoor venue in the spring and researched online.  When we found The Phoenix we went to tour the facility and it just felt right.  It was 35 minutes from my hometown and was a very laid back and comfortable venue.  It is a bed and breakfast with vegetable and flower gardens, as well as a pond.  There are pastures and cattle surrounding the venue and many big, beautiful live oak trees.  My husband loved the open space and feel of the venue.  We also love the screened in back porch on the bed and breakfast.  It was so peaceful and beautiful.  The weather was perfect when we toured the facility and the day of our wedding too!  Also, the owners of The Phoenix, Bruce and Ken, were SO helpful and kind.  They catered to our needs and helped relieve any anxiety and stress.  As well, my best friend and one of my matrons of honor, Earlanda Williams, helped coordinate the wedding with her very talented sister, LaQuita Hopkins, who was in charge of wedding décor.

Bride’s Favorite Moment: “I loved the fireworks at the end of the night.  They were truly beautiful and our photographer got some great photos that will capture those memories forever!”

Vintage French & Old English Influence This Lace & Pearl Cypress Grove Estate House Styled Wedding

 431     03.18.2013 7:30 am

With French vintage feel & old English influences, this lace & pearl styled shoot makes Cypress Grove Estate House feel like something out of the Midnight In The Garden of Good & Evil!  While the overall design aesthetic is indeed vintage heavy, there are still plenty of wonderful elements to keep it modern.  The bridal styling is fresh & clean with a fit & flare gown, large statement pearl necklace & showpiece veil fascinator.  Likewise our groom opted for a more business casual feel with a freshly unbuttoned suit & pocket square. Tables were dressed with soft pinks & various textures {ranging from lace, satin & organza to name a few}  with my personal favorite in the form of the pink satin rosebud chair slips!  A lovely chandelier, made even more elegant by the addition of layers upon layers of crystal, hallmarked the sweet heart table, while touches like giant satin bows punctuated the grand elegance of the whole affair.  Simple well chosen pieces can make all the difference, elevating your day to be novel worthy!

Rustic Elegance In This Country Cornfield Wedding Complete With Rain Drops & Chandeliers

 143     04.04.2012 10:41 am

Little known fact, believe it or not, I grew up on a farm.  I have a special kinship & draw to lovely farm weddings as a result.  Today’s wedding has some pretty wonderful details but its things that you dont see on paper that really make this wedding so lovely!  Firstly, check out that sky at the ceremony!  While it makes for some amazing lighting in the photographs, I really applaud the guests for holding strong facing some pretty ammonius skies!  Additionally this wedding was a big family affair with everyone helping out to make for such a wonderful day!  The day came together beautifully, & the bride looks gorgeous and I love the back of her dress!  Enjoy!

“I couldn’t decide on a theme for the wedding so when Jake came up with the idea of getting married in a corn field on the Johnson Family Farm, as his Uncle Sam had for his reception years prior, I went off of that idea for the wedding.  I knew I wanted to do an outside & elegant farm wedding.  It came down to wanting a venue big enough to fit our guest list of over 500 people.  When Grandpa Tom gave us the ok to use the farm, planning could begin.”

“I met Jake in high school, in my mother’s Chemistry class.  We dated some in high school but decided that we should go our separate ways when Jake left for college as he was a year older than me.  Fate brought us back together when we both ended up at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and the rest is history.”

“The wedding designers really pulled this theme together with the colors they picked and the florist was able to put together the most beautiful variations of centerpieces.”

“The moment I got to see Jake for the first time, in the middle of the cornfield.  It made my heart stop and made me realize just how lucky I am to have him in my life.”

“It ended up raining in the middle of our cermony but everyone seemed to have made the best of it as we gathered for drinks before heading back out and I was reminded that it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day.”

“Jake’s great Grandma Killian was able to be present and this was truly special as she passed away only a few weeks after the wedding.  My father/daughter dance was one to remember as my father and I swing danced to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” played and sung by my Grandma Frank Steinmetz on his accordion.”

“This wedding was truly a team effort with nearly all family members involved.  As Jake and I were still in school, details were worked out between wedding planners and family memebers as well as the two of us.  Whether it was working out details of booking vendors or crafts to be completed or even the work that needed to be done on the wedding site, the entire Johnson and Steinmetz families made our special day possible.”

DIY Chandelier Cake Stand by I Heart Naptime

 119     03.06.2012 12:24 pm

I’m always on the look out for great DIY projects.  Doing a project from scratch is wonderful, but when you can repurpose something, I love it that much more!  I know there are a lot of chandelier fans out there, myself included, so I wanted to feature today a simple & super awesome addition to any dessert spread, a Chandelier Cake Stand!

I heart Nap Time DIY Chandelier Cake Stand

I Heart Naptime a short while back got a steal of a deal on a chandelier & only just recently found the perfect use for it!  The steps she takes to recreate this chandelier into an adorable girly cake stand are simple & super easy to flow along.  It seems like a DIY that you could easily do for under $15 provided you get a steal on the chandelier of course!  Regardless, this is a wonderful way to really make your sweet treats sing on display!!

Instructions for DIY Chandelier Cake Stand here!

Can A Ceremony Spot Stop Your Heart?

 103     02.07.2012 11:38 am

Draped outdoor ceremony spot with chandliers *Photo by Turtle Pond Photography

Let’s all just take a moment to really soak in the beauty of what we are looking at here….       Ok, caught your breathe yet?  When I came across this gem, thanks to Calligraphy by Jennifer, I literally felt a bit like I got the wind knocked out of me!

As regards my own personal wedding, I feel we really delivered one hell of a wedding that was styled to the T.  Therefore there really arent many other weddings that I….well….get jealous of.  Then I saw this….Hot Damn that entire ceremony spot/set up is AMAZING.  Let’s chat about why this set up delivers such an impactful punch shall we!

Ok first things first, yes, its on a gorgeous hill over looking some lush greenery, and granted the wonderful vaulted dome pavilion wasnt exactly something erected just for this purpose but hey, if you got it, use it!  However, like any space, if you cant imagine it, if you cant design it, your going to be hard pressed to create it!  Whomever was the designing mind behind this arresting spot…. your amazing. (Ps-If anyone knows who designed this, please let me know, I definitely want to give them the credit!)

Your eye is immediately captured by the draping of the fabric spread wide along the top, pulled together & fastened with gorgeous varying whites flowers.  If you then allow that fabric to flow down the columns, you have the beginning frame for breathe taking drama.  Complement those gorgeous whites with a well manicured rose petal aisle, and simple white poms on your guests chairs.  Then give the eye something simple and organic to rest on using a strong walnut table.

But hold on….  We aren’t done yet.  Oh no, not at all.  Dear friends, please take a seat, as if you dont, you simply may faint from the beauty!  Chandeliers take center stage in this well designed ceremony spot.  Not 1, but 3.  Perhaps what I love most of all is a detail that you may not notice, even if you look upon the image for a while.  Its the attention to detail that gets me.  Oh what detail might that be?  Look at the main chandelier again.  See it yet?  You probably looked right over it, as we take for granted the simple fact that chandeliers hang.  But they surely dont hang on fabric!  The stylist was complete enough in their creation to want to go the extra step & disguise the chain used for hanging that lovely piece!  Its the total package, plain and simple.

Yeah…. I am jealous of this one.  Its true.  Its simply beyond.  In a way though I am almost glad I didn’t get married here, as I think I would have for sure been instant water works.  Its just one of those places.  There’s magic in that dome…

*Update 4/5/12

I finally have an update as to who the wonderful team is that created this lovely site!  Here are the very skilled vendors:

Venue: Pelican Hill, Orange County, CA
Florist: Empty Vase
Rentals & Draping: Fiori Fresco Special Events

As a side note, this particular image has over 700 repins on Pinterest!  It seems that this ceremony spot has stopped many a heart as it were!  Phew!!
