A Subtle Injection of Valentine’s Day Into February Weddings
Hello to my Valentine’s Day brides! Wondering how to tackle this beast without feeling cheesy? For right now, lets trouble shoot the dress shall we?!
I got to thinking, how exactly could I fold into my wedding some of the Valentine’s Day love without masses of red roses and heart shaped candy everywhere… Better yet, how to style the bride herself. Then it hit me. If your game for something a bit less traditional, but still giving a firm nod to tradition, what about a petticoat? For those brides that are willing to give short wedding dresses a try, you might want to consider this completely fun filled accessory.
Petticoats are undergarments for women worn under a skirt or dress from the waist.
The practice of wearing petticoats began back in 1585 initially for warmth, but ultimately evolving into a fashionable accessory giving the desired volume & shape to a dress. Now fast forward to current day. Petticoats have take a step into the spotlight all themselves and are now even being worn to be seen, not just purely as an under garment.
Now a days, petticoats are being created in lovely fabrics, laces, you name it, with gorgeous trimming & finishing touches that give a life to the piece all its own. These wonderful additions can be a perfectly subtle way to bring forth a bit of flirt, fun & even color to your wedding day look. You can still hold tight to tradition with a short wedding gown, but pop one of these lovelies underneath your dress at a length that allows it to slightly peek out at the bottom of the dress line.
Want just a hint more of Valentine’s Day color? Heel up with a fantastic pair of red or pink pumps. Perhaps you want something again more subtle… keep with an ivory heel, but add on a colorful clip to the front of the shoe bringing that extra bit of jazz to your over all look.
While the internet is filled with cheeky petticoats aimed to complete Halloween costumes, Etsy is a fabulous place to start looking for genuine petticoats.
My last parting words, remember, Valentine’s Day doesnt have to be ONLY red. Pink is a great alternative as well as touches of gold. If you love the day, but not the color red, get creative as there are so many other colors in the rainbow that say I Love You!
